Don't buy it because it is a junkI used the product for less than 20 times during 8 months period. Then it displayed locking errors and stop working. The customer service is very bad and it didn't worth to return the product for fixing because the labor charge will be more than the purchase price. Don't buy it or you will be very regret later.
BEWARE IF YOU RUN XP!Well, having recently upgraded to Windows XP, and having been otherwise quite happy with my Visioneer 6200 USB, I find that Visioneer's almost non-existent customer support gives me the following answer when trying to load the new driver required if you run XP on your system:
"Windows XP
Visioneer will not be applying for Windows XP logo for the scanners listed below, however these scanners will most likely still function properly.
Visioneer 6200"
CORRECTION: NO THEY WON'T! Apparently, they want me to fork over more money for another scanner rather than update the driver that many of their customers, like myself, will need in order to use it with XP. What a company! If they think I will ever buy another one of their products again, they are badly mistaken.
Shame on you, Visioneer! Stay away from these people, as they don't even have an email address for customer support.
Amendment (Many frustrating Hours Later)Having all but given up on the idea of scanning with my Visioneer 6200 under Windows XP, since the PaperPort software that comes with it no longer works and cannot be updated, I decided to try to use some of my other programs to try to access the scanner. While I was able to do so using third party software, I can no longer access my many scans done prior to the XP upgrade, as the PaperPort Program that manages the scanner and stores the scans will not run at all. If you are planning on going to XP and using this scanner, be sure you back up all of your PaperPort scans, or they will be lost. Like the people at Visioneer tech support, they will be inaccessible, unavailable, and/or no longer there when you need them.

Shoddy hardware/software integrationWe purchased this product with the expectation of using the automatic document feeder to scan and store documents. We have two other scanners but none with a document feeder. After fiddling with the scanner for hours, and after more than an hour with Micro-tek technical support, we were informed that the Macintosh software controlling the document feeder was defective with no date for any fixes. We were told that we could keep the scanner while checking their web site for fixes, or return the scanner. Conse-quently, as the scanner was of no use to us, we returned it. It is amazing to us that a com-pany can ship a product and software which doesn't work together. We can't imagine that we're the first Macintosh users to test this product, yet it took Microtek technical support more than an hour to figure out the software didn't work. We'll never buy another Micro-tek product again.

my HP2200c scanner was junkAfter a three days of successful scanning of about 50 photos, my newly purchased HP2200c scanner made a loud pop, and electrical smelling smoke came from it. It was just sitting there and BANG! It made OK scans (I've seen better) but never worked again after the BANG.
Very nice scannerI've owned this scanner for almost two years and has worked perfectly for everything I scan. Never a glitch. Unfortunately I'm now needing one that will scan negatives and slides as well. I wish they were as cheaply priced as this one was. For a first time user, you can't go wrong in buying this little workhorse.
No review - need helpMy granddaughter gave me her unused scanner, hp 2200c, but has lost the software. How do I find an installation disk? I'll be glad to purchase what's needed. Thanx, Bill

good butThe scanner has been good for everything I scanned except some photo's. Most photo's have spots on them after scanning that I can't seem to get rid of no matter what I do to try to adjust it. The picture they use to do adjustments is too small to see what you are doing. It will look good but then when you save it and go in to look at it, it still isn't right. It could be a little faster too. I don't understand why it will scan some photo's well and some are really bad. I cleaned it as directed and still it came out bad. Not my choice of scanner from now on. Will go to Cannon.
Works great for me in Windows 2000 and xpWish there is a power button on this model
Works wellThe Microtek Scanmaker 4800 has done all I have ask it to do.

Initial Reaction: Easy to UseI just purchased and set up this printer several hours ago. Being on a Mac (OS 10.4.7), I found set up occurred easily and quickly. First, I followed the 14-step "Start Here" poster. Once the software was loaded, it transferred from CD and ran through its installation application quickly (about 10 minutes).
In my set-up, the C4180 is connected by USB cable to a G5 iMac. I also have a G4 PowerBook and both machines are connected by wireless network. Copying, scanning and printing from the iMac was successful. But to print over the wireless network required that I activate Printer Sharing from the Internet & Network > Sharing preferences (accessed from the System Preferences). Once this was done on the iMac, the C4180 showed up as a printer on the remote PowerBook.
One hitch occurred during scanning. I placed a map on the glass and used HP's Photosmart Studio to control the scan settings. I set the scan to 200 dpi and enlarged the preview frame to scan the whole image. After clicking OK a warning came up that I didn't have enough memory to complete the task (I had 1.5 GB of RAM and no other software running). So I brought up Photoshop and controlled the scan from there. No problems (and the scan completed at 200 dpi). I'll have to return to Photosmart Studio and dig into how it works.
For ease of set-up and immediate gratification, this printer fulfills my needs and meets my expectations perfectly.

Fine for flat stuff, but the film adapter is disappointingI had an old Canon flatbed that gave up the ghost, so was looking forward to this new one, especially because it has a film adapter. First, and foremost, Canon's powering through the single USB cable is excellent and should be industry standard. However, it should be said that this is a film ONLY adapter - that is, it does NOT do slides (which seems like a bit of a bait; my bad for assuming, but the software does have the option of scanning positive film, so it seems like a important omission). More to the point, even when film strips/negatives are laid on the glass with the adapter, the results are slow, slow, slow and not very sharp. My suggestion: don't bother with the LiDE80 for film; just save$30 and get the LiDE65 for flatbed only. MacOSX interface is getting clunkier from generation to generation. Software bloat, I guess.
Canon CanoScan LiDE 80An excellent scanner. Have had no trouble with the scanner or the software supplied with the unit. All of the software as well as drivers supplied on the bundled CDs have worked without problem with Windows XP. Already have a lot of time logged on the unit scanning magazine articles for storage on CD because I no longer have room for the magazines. Circuitry/software does a great job of automatically compensating for old magazines where yellowing of the paper has occurred. Somewhat unhappy that I cannot register the bundled PhotoStudio software to qualify for upgrades, whereas the other software supplied can be registered.
Excellent ScannerThis scanner is a wonder. Easy to use with idiot proof features. I love it - sorry I did not buy it sooner.
